Petals Around the Rose
Petals Around the Rose is a lateral thinking mind game which I stumbled upon today. I love these kind of challenges and I thought I’d share it with you. The game is traditionally played with five dices, but here I have a flash version of it.
Before playing it, here are some info you should consider first.
There are three, and only three, rules:
- The name of the game is “Petals Around the Rose”, and the name is significant.
- The answer is always zero or an even number.
- Anyone who knows the game may give the answer to any roll, but they must not disclose the reasoning.
If you succeed in working out the secret to the challenge, you become a Potentate of the Rose!
Hit the Roll button, then input your answer to the question and finally, hit the Check button to see if you get it right!
Petals Around the Rose
Are you up to the task?
Let me know if you managed to solve the mystery and how fast were you.
Oh, and you should solve it at least three-four time in a row just to eliminate the luck factor!
P.S. If by any chance you happen to be Ogica, you should solve if at least 6 out of 49 times before validation! (Only Romanians will get this poor joke…)
Lateral Thinking
In case you are wondering, lateral thinking is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious and about ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic.
It’s a term devised by Edward de Bono (Maltese psychologist, physician and writer) and it first appeared in the title of his book “The Use of Lateral Thinking”, published in 1967.
De Bono defines lateral thinking as methods of thinking concerned with changing concepts and perception.

Is there any clue about how I should play it? What is the rose and what are the petal?
