Is It Worth?
Lately I had opposite thoughts about the directory which I host on my site and I’m not sure what I did wrong.
Everything started from the D-List because I wasn’t (and still am not) happy with the way the websites are listed there. So, I thought it will be a good thing to use such a directory to have categories and, more important, to have descriptions for each listed website. I was expecting that at least all the new do-follow list subscribers to ask for an inclusion in the directory as well. But it seems it’s not like that and only a few of them wanted to be in the directory…
So, what could be the problem? It’s not like I’m charging anything for this…
Speaking of which, why would I pay to be listed into a blog directory? Is it worth it?
I guess that you can look at this like any other mean of promotion – it’s worth as long as it provides something valuable back to you.
Let’s take alive blog directory for example. It’s built on the better known Alive Directory which is a PR 6 website (PR 4 on the listing page though) and Alexa rank less than 20000. It has (big?) part of the main site traffic and the Google page rank will rise soon for sure. It has the same listing format (standard and featured) and the same submission options (yearly and permanent) and it has prices less than the main one (but still pretty high).
I’m thinking of purchasing a featured listing there, but I’m not sure yet.
What do you think?

I guess your blog does not have a high pr yet. Maybe thats why its not popular. A lot of people are becoming commenters on others blogs but not disabling their nofollow.
Also directories suck for traffic. Even the popular ones like blogcatalog. You are just submitting for a little kick of pr rank. I do hang out at blogcatalog, mybloglog, bumpzee but only to hook up with other bloggers for linkexchange and maybe give each other some short tips…
