Maybe thats why its not popular. A lot of people are becoming commenters on others blogs but not disabling their nofollow. Also directories suck for traffic. Even the popular ones like blogcatalog. You are just submitting for a little kick of pr rank. I do hang out at blogcatalog, mybloglog,bumpzee but only to hook up with other bloggers for linkexchange and maybe give each other some short tips... I guess your blog does not have a high pr yet.
